Hanson Benefits Inc. Insurance Comparison Report
In January of 2005 Productivity Source met with Hanson Benefits Inc. (HBI) to discuss their business processes. The discussion focused primarily on the generation of health insurance plan comparisons. Health insurance plans are notoriously difficult to read. A key function in HBI's sales process is to present a comparison report to their client that shows the various plan options in an easy to read and compare table, helping the client to make an informed choice. Since every comparison was different for each client, the comparison table had to be custom generated for each sales presentation. The generation of a report would generally take between 4 and 5 hours. The need for expediting the generation of the reports was becoming critical since HBI was receiving a large influx of business.
Based on the initial meeting, Productivity Source proposed the development of a tool consisting of three main components; a plan entry and maintenance area, a plan comparison edit section, and a report generation facility. The tool would be implemented with easy to use forms developed to the specification of HBI personnel.
HBI was eager to proceed with the development which proceeded over the month of February. During this period Productivity Source worked in coordination with HBI to pre load the new tool database with plan data so that the tool could be used immediately upon installation. Installation and training on the new tool commenced in the first week of March. The new tool reduced the report generation time from 4-5 hours down to 10-15 minutes.
Chris Hanson, HBI's founder, said that this tools saved here business. She said that there was no way she would have been able to keep up with the new influx of business without it. She also said "It's so easy to use - it's fun!".
Since the initial installation, Productivity Source has provided HBI with two maintenance updates to the tool to provide additional enhancements to its functionality. HBI plans to utilize Productivity Source for the development of two more similar report generation tools this year. These will be for the generation of ADD and dental comparison plans.
